Unless you're willing to buy a trainer that measures speed (e.g. the Wahoo KICKR or the Kurt Kinetic + inRide Bluetooth pod), getting a speed meter is your only option I think. On the upside, the new BlueSC does BT and ANT+, which is nice if you ever decide to get a Garmin.
