I would say so. I used to get lots of flats on my hybrid also. I found it was due to metal filings from the spoke hole drilling getting stuck to cheap rim tape. Crummy commuter tires and dirty roads also played huge role. New rim tape and better tires helped.

I would highly recommend Schwalbe Marathons when replacement comes due. I have only had maybe two (one for certain and I just feel there should be one other to make it believable) flats due to debris since I started using marathons over 13,000 km ago. Well worth the money to not have to change flats. I have worn more rims than flats come to think of it.
