I will position myself to not block right turning cars wherever possible, but never wait at the curb. I stay to the left of a wide dedicated right turn lane, or if there is no dedicated right turn lane I will take the rightmost straight-through lane - plant myself right in the middle of the lane. When the light turns green I will ride toward the right side of the road on the far side of the intersection so I hardly delay the straight through traffic at all. I also ride in Irvine and all of Orange County and find that I can almost always position myself to allow right turners to proceed while not impeding through traffic. I have never been honked at for doing it this way, even had right turning drivers give me a friendly wave.
