I've never met anyone, including me, who makes a return on investment buying and selling collectible transportation that is better than say investing in a stock index. So given that we can't "make" money with this hobby using a holding strategy, then trade and cash out strategy is the wisest. However, the value of a collectible to me is that I can pass something to the future that could be very interesting to someone. I suppose if Vogue magazine were to run a feature some day on a celebrity who collects old bikes, there might be a temporary bubble in vintage bike purchase values - but I'm not counting on that.
