Can you also suggest if there is a thread on the forum about bike groups (I am from Tucson, Arizona). I am itching to be a part of one which go on 20-30 mile weekend rides.
I suggest you do a search for meetups in your area. I think you'll like the Trek Fx 7.2. It's a decent bike that will perform well for the kind of riding you described. I think that it will make biking fun and that you'll out-grow it which makes it a good bike.
