Big Feet

I have a cycling "problem", which for the first time I want to fix this year.

My feet are large, 13 EE, or depending upon the shoe brand 13 EEEE, in running and dress shoes, in my hiking boots they are size 14's. In over 30 years of bicycling, I've never had a pair of well fitting cycling shoes, always to small, and I've had to go without socks and with keeping them loosely laced to keep my toes from going numb. I have not been able to get a well fitting pair from any LBS, and the problem is the same every time, not enough width.

European size 48's, which I wear, do not cut it, and seemingly nobody carries anything larger in my area and I've tried online from various sources without success...they are either always out of stock in larger sizes or they don't carry them.

There must be someone else on here with this problem who has fixed it.

I don't want to pay $1000 for custom shoes, which I looked into, but considering I had to drive 120 miles and go to several stores before I could find a pair of running shoes last time, perhaps that is the only way to do it.

Any suggestions?
