I tried to make a deal with get the SL8 my LBS had in stock, but they wouldn't budge off of the $4500 price. Compared to the price for the SL6, there was no way I was paying an extra $1500 just to get a Dura Ace group and to receive the bike 2 months sooner.
The SL6 was that size too though. I do agree that I wish there was more of a difference besides the groupset going from SL6 to SL8. Saddle/tires too but most people change those the second they get a bike, at least I do... the pricing between those two models is silly. You can get a Dura Ace group for $1,050 online. You'd be better off buying the SL6, buying the group online, and selling off the Ultegra group if you just HAD to have Dura Ace.
The first shop I was at would only budge $200 on the SL8, after spending over an hour with me. The second shop offered $1k off over the phone without me even asking for a discount (just "well, we can't get the SL6 for a while but I can give you a grand off the SL8") and I asked for another $200 and they gave it to me if I bought that day.
