Our tolerance of quote unquote "accidental injury/death" by drivers is unique, IMO. And the willingness of many to waive off an unintentional/intentional assault by a driver with a they were "fine" certainly does not help. When someone operating heavy machinery on a construction site has an accident that almost injures or kills someone we don't play this no harm, no foul they were "fine" game.
