They just pulled that MSRP out of their asses at Colnago. The frame is lost money to him right now. I can't see paying more than $1,000 for it. Maybe $1,500 in deference to the marque, but no more. Make no mistake, it is a great find, but I would hate myself for overpaying for it.
I think you may be underestimating the value of rare frames. There are a lot of folks for whom the starting price was worth it to ride that frame when it came out. It's still a nice frame but it won't get much respect in the circles that buy high end frames.
