I think the Duo is perfectly strong. We've used it on several tours, generally on our Santana triplet, and it's never had a problem with slipping, bending, etc. From posted info, both have the same load rating (33#) and weigh almost the same (11.2 vs 11.5 ounces). See

BUT, as mentioned, it will only work on forks with pass-through mid-fork rack brazeons (one on each side of the fork leg). I got the Tara because my Co-Motion Nor'wester only has the braze-ons on the outside of the fork legs, which is a bummer. If I ever get the bike repainted I'll have them add the extra pass-through braze-ons.
