I think the Duo is perfectly strong. We've used it on several tours, generally on our Santana triplet, and it's never had a problem with slipping, bending, etc. From posted info, both have the same load rating (33#) and weigh almost the same (11.2 vs 11.5 ounces). See Tubus Racks. For those who don't know the difference between the two models, I've posted pics below.

BUT, as mentioned, it will only work on forks with pass-through mid-fork rack brazeons (one on each side of the fork leg). I got the Tara because my Co-Motion Nor'wester only has the braze-ons on the outside of the fork legs, which is a bummer. If I ever get the bike repainted I'll have them add the extra pass-through braze-ons.
