+1. Ability to climb is directly related to power/weight ratio. Lose weight and improve power and you'll be faster at climbing.

They never feel any better unless you choose to go slower. For some reason I always seem to climb at 80% to 100% of what I'm capable of for a particular length of hill so they usually hurt at the end independent of my fitness level.
