Interesting point, Baxter's up-and-down certainly is more equivalent to "normal cycling" I guess, although the focus on keeping in one gear and just pushing up and down cadence isn't something I do unless I'm really trying to mix things up. I find trainer rides to be very different beasts to actually going out there. For example, when the weather is good I'd think nothing of going out for 2-3 hours and going up to 50 miles on my bike on a whim (and longer with organized rides, I did a bunch of metric centuries and a "real" century last year), but the idea of going over 60 minutes on the trainer was a real mental block that I struggled to overcome.
