That is a very relative question. It has many dependencies.
But as long as he takes care of his responsibilities as mentioned above it doesn't really matter.

I would only call it "not logical" if he just buys a very expensive bike to go to grocery store a couple of times and than throw away. However even in that case it would still be his call and his money to spend. So non of our business really.
