You are correct. If you only use inRide, you will get all you need. The issue is that TR won't save the speed/distance from inRide. I have never had any issues at all with only using inRide or using inRide in tandem with TR. the issue is having TR using the virtual speed/candence from inRide and uploading the info to the TR web site. Which makes no sense because the TR app acutally gives you these values, but doesn't save them. Makes no sense to me. So we have to buy stand alone sensors to get the speed if we want it.
