There seems to be a huge debate of the effectiveness of every law which inconvenience cyclists for safety's sake (helmets, reflective vests, etc), but every law that cripples motorists' rights are applauded gleefully with little regard for effectiveness.
Considering that motorists are a majority that have created laws/statutes that discriminate against and discourage active transport I really don't give a fart about motorist's rights.
