I lived in the NJ suburbs from 1987 through 2013, and I saw an increase in the number of people going places on bikes in recent years. It's not immensely noticeable in some areas, but it is happening. If your area doesn't have a Complete Streets policy, get involved and push for one. I co-founded a non-profit in NJ, and we succeeded in getting one passed where I lived.
