Alright, that`s good to hear. Uhm yeah, i guess the alu. bolts come with the crank set to keep the shipping weight down and the "weight weenies" happy. I am not so sure i appreciate the resentment towards using red locktite on such a vital part of the assy. I mean the last one freggin fell of in "mid flight" and i was stranded miles away from home. I would rather have it stay shut than to let that happen again. I have a pretty bad ass Makita 18V 450 NM impact drill that should take care of any resistant locktite infested bolts. These things are meant for bolts on tires on those four wheeled things that you see everywhere with people in them and make alot of noise and fumes (no i do not own one myself) So as far as using the red locktite, case closed people;-) Alright. I must say i was disappointed having to dish out a brand new crank set. The play in my old set could not be eliminated by tightening the steel bolt. Just maybe the steel bolt has eaten away on the inner tube locking teeth of the crank so it can no longer do its job?! Maybe this is what i was getting at earlier. If using an alu. bolt, this bolt would have been sacrificed while the "locking teeth" (for lack of a better term) would still have been intact...??? Any opinions on this?!
As i mentioned, i have not done a good job of checking the bolt from time to time. I suppose i will have to excel on this routine. This is why it just fell out one fine day back in may. Regardless of what type of bolt i use, (no locktite) maybe check every three months if it has become loose. Another thing that springs to mind. The new crank set did have a crank BB included. Hopefully the old crank BB will work just as fine on this new crank. The new BB does not have any loose rubber or metal shims on there. My old one does. But hey we`re rolling. BTW, just upgraded from 48T to 52T so i had to shorten my chain by 1 link. Looks like i might have to get a brand new chain & cassette (sighs) The decision to buy the Trek Cyclocross a few years ago has really been an eyeopener. Brilliant exercise bike and you get there
just a a little bit faster. Not much energy going to waste when pedaling. And i have yet to thread around in any bicycle shoes. May i recommend the Nike air max total 365 for a great energy transfer. Well this is getting out of hand. Let me just get out of your way real quick..
