I think it's because people get used to seeing you at a certain weight and when you lose a LOT of weight, it's almost like their eyes have to adjust or something. I keep remembering Bridget Jones Diary. She finally loses some weight and weighs 130 pounds and feels great. Then she goes to a party and people ask if she's sick!

I don't have a weight problem, but last year, especially after the winter, I was sick and lost weight and was thinner than i had been in a long time. It's not like I was on a diet, and believe me, it's not a way you'd WANT to lose weight. But I heard people had asked if I was sick, and they probably wondered if I had an eating disorder because I'd gotten pretty thin. Also, after being sick I didn't look that great, kind of pale and tired. But the thing is I'm actually fine for my height and not underweight at all. One friend said I was 'racer thin' and I thought, great! Not like I race or anything.

I think that we should worry if someone is anorexic, but in a country where obesity and being overweight is such a big problem, the last thing we should worry about is people being a few pounds underweight or being a bit too thin. Unless you're endangering your health or not eating, you're probably at less risk for your health than if you're overweight. And it's true, if people are bugging you they are probably trying do defend their own lifestyle. No one here sounds too thin- 6 feet tall and 178 pounds is NOT too thin! In fact, that sounds ideal!
