Hi everyone
I have recently inherited my dad's old 1984 Pinarello Record Equipe. It's currently not in the best of keep but it is my mission to restore it to it's former glory. My dad was a very keen cyclist back in the eighties and had this bike custom built for him. It is an exact replica of the 1984 Metauro Mobili Pinarello Team bike. I have done a lot if research over the past year since obtaining the bike which has brought me many times to this site, so I thought it was high time I joined it! I think the bike is pretty unique, I've spent hours trawling the net and as yet not found another one identical, other than actual team photos. The bike has my dad's name hand painted on at the time of build on the top tube as the actual team would. It is a very special bike that means a lot to me. it has undergone a few minor modernisations over the years (saddle, aero brake levers, clip in pedals, bar tape etc) but is mainly original. It has full campy super record, a lot of which is Pinarello pantographed. I have been purchasing over the past year the original parts that my dad had modernised and had exact replacement decals custom made, so now it is pretty much ready to go under the knife! The paintwork and chrome need a bit/lot of tlc and the components need stripping an a good clean. I would like to get this bike looking new but also am reluctant to have it fully re-sprayed as I feel this would remove it's originality and soul. I will need to asses the scale of works required as I begin to strip it and clean it up properly. For the record, my dad is Still alive and very much kicking, perhaps the use of the word "inherited" implied he was a goner, but the bike was just gathering dust and rust in his garage, so I though it was about time it got rescued. I look forward to getting some input from all of the experts/enthusiasts on this forum and am very exited about getting my teeth I to this project. The pictures I have attached are of the bike in it's current condition, after a sponge down with some hot soapy water to remove the twenty years of dust it has accumulated whilst sat neglected in the garage, and one of Marco Gruppo from the Metauro Mobili team to give an example of what it should/will look like!
Please feel free to give me some knowledge and or opinions on how best to restore this, or if you own/ever come across one of these before.
Thanks
Craig
