An update on this:

While those brakes were out of commission, I installed some Super Record brakes that I had. They seem to work and 'feel' better than the Monoplanar pieces (in my opinion). I did find some pads that are notched, and will try them out when I get them. However, the notching looks a little too shallow for the nut to clear so I might have to relieve them some more.
