Special interest parties are a good deal, but only when there are enough of them, i.e. >2. Opening up US Congress to be more representative would do a lot to precipitate the creation of other parties, which in turn would reduce much of the current penchant for deadlock. Of course, moving to compulsory voting like OZ would perhaps lead that way as well.
