I wouldn't say you directly insulted him...

To be fair, I saw a dude last winter blow by me on an Indy Fab crown jewel Ti that must've cost about $8000 going to work in early april through the mixture of black mud/slush/grime that we call snow in NYC while I was going to work, apparently he was going to work too.

You - nice looking Colnago. I'd be willing to bet that the wheels cost more than my bike. Lots of colors, couldn't pick one as the main paint color. Even the pockets on your jersey looked aero.

Me - Late 80's Bianchi lugged steel track frame, black and celeste only with a little chrome. Carharts, mess bag, armwarmers (why did I put those on - it was WARM) made out of dress socks.

You came from nowhere on my hung over commute into work. I have the feeling you had to have worked to catch me, as there were a bunch of "Health's Angels" behind me. (They're a bunch of 50+ bikers with mirrors and comfort bikes. I bearly got onto the trail in front of the bulk of them, and it took a little distance to get past them with oncoming bikes. I wanted to be safe...) You must of been behind them, passed, then tried to make up lost time. I'd guess you were doing 24-25mph when you passed me...

But then you slowed down. I grabbed your wheel for a few hundred yards at about 22, then thought better of it. Dropped back and matched your speed about 30 feet behind you. If I had of drafted, true, I would have gotten to work faster (I'm sure you would have tried to drop me), but I would have felt bad and had to try to pass you at some point. Then I'm sure that I'd be pulling you. Not something I really wanted to do first thing (1:30ish) in the afternoon...

You stopped where the Greenway turns to follow the light rail - I'm assuming that you were turning back around and looking for someone else to bait. Today was a beautiful day to be riding. Possibly one of the last ones this year. With the volume of people on the trail, I actually wondered how many people were playing hookey from work to get a good ride in.

Anyways, I hope that your Colnago enjoys the trainer this winter. My Bianchi and I will be out on the trails all winter long. Maybe come spring, we'll meet in different circumstances, and I'll be able to see how well my drunken brakeless self can keep up with your uber bike.
