replacing well-worn mks sylvan pedal cages??

Hi all. I've been touring the past two years with the mks sylvan touring pedals and have already flipped the power grip straps for the cages have been worn smooth. I'm still on the road(riding into baton rouge tomorrow) and plan to stop at the bike coop in Austin to adjust the bearings of the nds pedal that has decided to start clicking and am wondering if anyone has ever replaced the cages with hardened steel? There isn't much material left to file the serrations to replenish the traction but I like that the pedals are serviceable and i am generally one to attempt all options of salvation before discarding. However, with all that being said, the cages are riveted in place and am not sure of what or anything can be done. The one thought I've had was to drill out the rivet, thread the cavities and install bolted diy'd cages. (Side note: are there any disadvantages of bolted cages vs riveted ones other than having to possibly retighten or threadlock the latter? Also, am I doing irreparable damage to the pedals' bearing race by riding hundreds of miles while it's clicking?[I'm waiting to get to the Austin coop bc I tour on the MOST minuscule of budgets and prefer to work on my own bicycle and i imagine a bike coop in Austin would be too good to pass]) Or, is there a way to get the riveted pin out and simply pop in another one?
Thank you in advance for any advice/recommendations
