I use my w/p pants a lot, for cold, wet riding, commuting and touring.
I found that expensive Gortex ones were overkill for the task, nice but cheaper ones can work just as well. My choice is Pertex Shield, in
Montane DT Atomic pants. The material is durable enough to last a couple of years of heavy use.
Windproof pertex is much lighter than waterproof versions but anything more than light rain will get through.
