I've got what I've only previously known as "cloth electrical tape" on a couple of my favorites. At least I assumed it was electrical tape; since it was all over the wiring harnesses of the 1960s cars I used to wrench on. Not that particular brand, but same idea, I believe:
I've used hockey tape as an
underlayer for conventional Newbaums and Tressostar cloth tape, and with good results. The friction tape I'm putting
on top of worn & faded cloth tape. It has a definite stickiness to it, but that goes away after a week or two. It doesn't wear as long as thicker cloth tape.
