Iirc, the one in the picture is a mk2. But I did also work on a couple of mk4s. Those are mostly 'merkin.
But I am not a fan of the monocoque chassis, in a GT40 or an E-Type. Rust repair is difficult. I did like the Cobras. Either twin 3 or 4-inch steel tubes running down the middle. Any idiot could fix those.
I agree, the GT40s might be much more sophisticated, much faster racers, but
in my book the elegant simplicity and the raw sexyness of the Cobras beat the GT40's anytime...
Here's a 1965 427 Cobra (I think it's an SC. The chromed side pipes look to be a later mod) in my Uncle's collection that I got to wrench on with him two years ago when I visited him abroad.....

Has to be one of the most drop dead gorgeous cars in history.

I delivered replacement Halibrands for the car to him as he did not trust the originals anymore because of Magnesium "ageing".
We went ahead and did a full brake overhaul too...

The car is so easy and simple to work on that he let a "mechanical idiot" like me give it a full tune up too!
Except for the induction tub (interesting as it is something that most GT40s also had) and the Cobra head covers, and a few other tasty looking aluminum items in the engine bay, it could be just another American muscle car

I tried to convince him to take the stereo out of the car as I think it was not stock and sticks out like a sore thumb in the simple, otherwise, all original, all business cockpit, but I could not convince him to do so...... Maybe it was stock...
