... the dilute household ammonia available to most of us works pretty slowly on aluminum corrosion, so usually (if the post is not otherwise damaged in the vise or with a pipe wrench) it turns out to be quite usable. But yeah, mostly you just want it out of there. New ones are cheap and readily available.
