Putting a SS rear derailleur with that huge cassette is going, IMHO, to look funny. I think you need a long cage derailleur to balance the size of the cassette. Ask the guys at the shop and I'll bet they'll come around to recommending the Deore. Just speculation on that last part, of course, but it is a modern classic among long cage rear derailleurs.
