Thanks to both,

I did a web search for a Mavic spacer, that appears to be what I installed first prior to the cassette. I also found an exploded view of the CS 5600, it appears I am missing the "low" spacer that should have been with the cassette. I will search my spares box for one or if needed, buy one. It makes sense the lock ring is bottoming on the freehub.

I will verify the lock ring also, as the cassette is a 12t low cog.
