Cannonade Trail 7 thoughts?

I'm looking for some input on the Cannonade Trail line - most specifically the Cannon Trail 7 which is their cheapest model. I searched and didn't find this bike mentioned anywhere on here - even higher end versions...

A little background - I have a CAAD10 road bike, most of the time thats what I'll ride but I have 3 kids between 6 and 11 and I like to go riding around with them sometimes and the road bike isn't ideal for that - I end up going too fast and having to get in and out of the clipless pedals so often when they stop just is a pain. I had a Trek 820 steel bike which is what I was using but sold it last year - I still don't know why I just knew I wanted to upgrade this season. I prefer a mountain bike over a hybrid, I just feel more comfortable on it and I know as they get older I'd like to do some trails with them and want the front suspension. I do one 30 mile trail ride every year (a charity ride in my area) which is all dirt and crushed rock - a few small tree roots along the way and I like having the front suspension. (I did more traditional mountain biking before I had kids so I'm just comfortable with a mtn bike.)

Anyway the few things on my wish list were: 29er, disc brakes, front suspension and as cheap as possible.. Can't find anything on Craigslist so I'm looking new. I LOVE my CAAD10 - its my second Cannondale road bike and I'm definitely a homer and brand loyalist. Unless another brand was significantly cheaper for the same specs I'd pay a few extra dollars to stay with Cannondale.

Anyway - I know the Trail 7 has basic components but its equivalent or better than my 820 had so I know thats what I'm getting for the cost - $600. I'm essentially paying for the frame and can upgrade components as I need to. So I guess my question(s) are - is the Trail 7 worth it - Not seeing many reviews or people posting about it on here is somewhat concerning. Is there another bike I should be looking at which will either give me similar specs and components but save me a hundred bucks or more, or is there something for $600 that I should look into which would give me better components and be a better value for my money?
