I was in Portland just the other day and saw tons of bike lanes. Have you ever wondered why they put a marked bike lane on one block then the next block has nothing? Must be politics. I think sometimes government will put up a sign just to say they are bike friendly. Oregon is one of the best states for the biking culture.

This happens all the time in SA, it seems. Except I think I've noticed a subtler switch from bike lane to middle of traffic. It's a bit unnerving, I suppose, and it seems to happen in the middle of various streets. And I'm not entirely sure that my fellow San Antonians (?) are reading those friendly reminders to share the road. It seems as if we are friendly in Texas so long as you're not in the way (or vegetarian).
