That could be but really isn't relevant to my comment.

If the bus is moving, one probably doesn't enough time to "get out of the way" even if that is what you are trying to do. A person removing a bike is very close to the bus and the distance to clear it is huge. People don't have anywhere near the reaction times to do much. (About the only possible thing that might work is to fall-down and hope the bus clears you.)

CliffordK is suggesting that the person killed was risking his life to "save" his bike. That is either wrong or irrelevant. His comment is a strange (and an offensive speculation about a situation he doesn't understand).

That's the thought of anybody with even a vague idea of what a bus is! (Getting people on and off of a bus with bikes inside would be a mess too.)
