First Bike Purchase, Help!

Hello All,

I am buying my first bike (been riding a Raleigh mountain bike since High School/I'm now 26) and am having a hard time deciding between the Trek 7.2 FX and the Cannondale 4 Quick. I've test ridden both and while I found the Quick to be a slightly faster, smoother ride, the difference is almost negligible. The Quick is marked down at my local shop from $730 to $590, while the Trek is going for $480. I don't really know enough about bikes to understand which components are better on the Cannondale, or if it's worth paying the extra money. Both bikes seem really well reviewed, etc. The standard advice seems to be "go with what feels best," and that's just the problem. I've been riding a bad bike for so long that both of these bikes felt great! I took both for lengthy test rides and as I said, the main difference seemed to be that the Cannondale felt a little faster. Any thoughts or direction here would be most appreciated.
