Quite strange, actually. The roads in the DC area are nearly free of snow where they have been plowed. However, many streets are plowed only in a single lane, creating a challange for two-way traffic. Therefore, even though traction is not an issue, it can be very slow going in spots. Of course, some roads have not been touched at all -- just 18" (.5 m) of the densest snow you can imagine.
The snowpiles at the edges of the roads reach six feet or more in places. It is quite a beautiful sight -- a good thing, because the detours I must take add a mile or two to the trip.
