Using Shiftmate for FD?

I have a weird idea to run by you all.

One of my bikes uses a Campagnolo Record triple crank with a Campagnolo Record double front derailleur and Record 10 speed brifters. This setup actually works. However, it requires a somewhat long lever throw to make a shift. To go from middle chainring to big chainring can sometimes require one and a half full pushes of the lever. So front shifts are a little "deliberate".

I was thinking of putting a Shiftmate inline with the FD housing - perhaps up at the downtube cable stop - to achieve more cable pull for a given movement of the lever. Idea being this would allow a faster shift, like getting from middle to big with less than one full push of the lever.

What do you think? Ever tried this?
