It's not really intended for road riding. It's for cyclocross, where a 1x setup is very popular. This, and their roller bearing clutch on the rear derailleur (helps prevent front chainring derailment, which is the biggest problem with 1x setups), make SRAM a tough drivetrain to beat for cross.
