cervelo s1 - replacing front brakes (calipers)

I was replacing the brakes on my Cervelo S1 (it came with lousy brakes with a 'e' logo on it)
I replaced those with Ultegra 6800 brakes.

Strangely removing the front brakes was an interesting exercise. I was simply unable to unscrew the nut from the back of the fork and ended up unscrewing the calipers and screwed on the replacement brakes from the front as well.

I've attached a picture of the nut from the mounting hole on the back of the fork. It almost looks like the nut is part of the fork and not meant to be unscrewed.
Did I miss some trick ?

Everything is working fine so I'm not really worried. Just curious.
