As for the damaged rim itself; it's 36h rim, purchased September 2013 and has around 2,500 miles on it. Obviously as a very heavy rider, I know that anything I use on my daily commuter will have a substantially smaller life-cycle, and TBH if the only thing needing replacement is the rim itself, then it's not a bad investment to replace it with the same type/model. Hopefully the DT-Swiss spokes won't need replacing which should keep the cost of the repair down, as well as the time needed to fix it.

My main concern was not having a dangerous failure while on my commute.
I rode an Open Pro with those same cracks and it never failed. I finally replaced it with an Open Sport for the extra aluminum. You may have gotten a defective rim. 2500 miles is not acceptable.
