Agree. Nor are Rome, Paris, Amsterdam, London, Munich, Stockholm, and a very long list of other cities. Most solve this by limiting the size/weight of vehicles allowed with quite stiff penalties for violations. Makes for much safer and more pleasant streets.
Seattle restricts commercial vehicles to 24' straight trucks for the downtown core except by special permit.
