+1. It's really more up to conditions than any specific mileage or time frame.

Since I live where there is a winter , I'll use that time to repack the hubs on my road bikes even if they might not need it yet. But after a bike has been ridden or parked in the rain, I'll open up the hubs ASAP, since I might be able to reuse the balls if I get to them soon enough.
