Hot diggedy, fixed the failing velcro on my Sidi cycling shoes!

Hey all,

Just in case others are having this problem:

The velcro on my Sidi cycling shoes had failed to the point where the straps were no longer holding. I took them to a local cobbler and he didn't have velcro in his shop, told me to go to a shop further downtown. I looked at the straps again and realized the velcro was not stitched on, it was glued on -- actually, not even glued on -- it had adhesive backing. I thought, "Well, hell, I can do that myself." Went to Sprawlmart, got some 'industrial strength' (supposedly) velcro in the sewing/crafts aisle for $3, peeled off the old velcro, cut new pieces to fit and--VOILĄ--good as new velcro!

Apparently, velcro fails because the fuzzy fabric part loses the tiny loops that attach to the hooks on the other part. So you only have to replace the fuzzy fabric part.

Hope this helps people who encounter the same problem.

Btw, if you want your velcro to last longer in the first place, don't close the straps when you store your shoes, leave the straps unattached. Otherwise, you are basically doubling the number of times you are attaching and detaching them, which would wear out the velcro twice as fast, in theory.

Cheers,

David
