I mentioned in my post about my Peugeot Canyon Express that I had to finish the fiances bike before I could start on the Peugeot. Well here's her birthday present.
1973 Schwinn Varsity 20"
Stripped it down to the bottom bracket and headset bearing cups. The dropouts were slightly misaligned but that was a quick easy fix. The headset and bb were both in excellent condition so all I ended up doing was cleaning and reassembling using loose ball bearings. Of course I polished all the chrome and aluminum (hand polished and far from mirror but it is shiny).
Rebuilt using Schwinn (Shimano) Le Tour GT 450 front and GT 400 rear derailleurs. Put on a 6 speed freewheel and a set of Tektro R559 brakes and a PDW Dios Thronus. Jagwire brake cables with white housing. And last but certainly not least a set of brand new alloy 27" wheels wearing Continental TourRide rubber.
She was very impressed, I scored some major league brownie points.
Next up are the 24" mtb's for the step kiddos the girls is a 1x7 Specialized hardrock that really just needs new cabling and a good cleaning. The boys is a 1995 Schwinn Thrasher 3x6 mtb. The boy is 9 years old and wants to build his bike himself so a few weeks ago we stripped it down and by next weekend all the parts will be here and we'll put it together.
Maybe then I can get to my Peugeot mtb.
