It's been more than 5 years since 2009 (which coincides with the bottom of the recession ) and surely we have newer data -- if the trend for less driving has continued, then the new data will back it up. Otherwise, it starts to look disingenuous.

Very good point. We ahve had a couple threads about vehicle miles traveled. You could find links to more recent statistics there. Here is sorta the "classic" graph that is commonly used:



This does show that vmt has leveled off some, but continued to decline until 2014, the latest figures.
