One thing I will point out is that the heavier a bicycle is, the better a kickstand works- it's the bike's weight that keeps it from blowing over in wind. So as they make lighter bikes, kick stands become less effective.

Your bike can drop if you lean it against something, but it's probably more likely to drop if it's on a kickstand.
