Many will shun you for just asking the question . Yes, kickstands are clearly uncool, much like reflectors and helmet visors and other merely practical things . Yet, they do go well/better with fenders and racks and other such accessorizing -again. I only have a kickstand on my 50-pound electric, which is by definition my least-cool bike --even if it is the coolest Ebike out there. But, yes, kickstands are every bit as functional and practical as they always were. Leaning a bike, other than against a tire, can easily scratch it, and many bike-parking/locking areas can be especially risky. On the other hand, even if you don't mind the look of a kickstand, and risk dismissing the not-cool judgments, bikes on stands can still be knocked down, and bike-parking options often don't allow for leaning a bike on it's stand, rendering them less or impractical. That's my three cents at a late hour.
