However, isn't the crown and fork blades aluminum.

I wouldn't use a method that put those at risk. Even if the caustic was limited to the steerer, you would get fumes higher. Bubbles?

The crown should be mostly solid, so if you could devise a way to clamp the crown, then you could put a lot more force on it than on the fork blades.
