A surprising difference in chain noise
Hi all,
After installing a new KMC 8.93 chain on a Wabi classic (about 2000 miles on the chainring and fixed cog), I was surprised by how much noise I heard. I tried more slack and less slack in the chain and different kinds of lube, but the noise persisted. I read around for suggestions and found the following: loosen the chainring bolts, rotate the cranks, and look for tight spots. I couldn't see any tight spots, but I went ahead and tapped the chainring around each bolt with a rubber mallet to get the chainring seated as straight as possible. When I tightened everything back down, the chain noise is hardly there at all. I guess I'd read this suggestion but didn't think it would make as much of a difference as it did.
Are there any other things you have done that have made differences for noise that you didn't suspect would make such a difference?
Thanks,
Jim
