I think what separates a nice custom designed frame and just custom paint is the design itself. without seeing this in person, this could pass for a rattle can paint job with some vinyl stickers thrown on. As mentioned above, you could still easily throw some small lines on the fork/seat stays or possibly paint the inside of the fork. Its lovely as is, but could use something more if it were my own.
I agree with you. The bike was in a for a chain stay repair so I went ahead and did the simple paint you see here, rather than match two shades of blue and still ride a rolling billboard. If I didn't race this bike and didn't have to worry about breakage I would have done more, but I've broken three road bikes in two years. One was a hit from a car, another from the RD going through the stays/wheel, and then this broken chain-stay.
