Most of my commute is really flat, but to get to my house at the end of the day I have a choice between...

150 feet of elevation gain in a quarter miler, peaking at 20% grade and mostly over 12%



or

170 feet of elevation gain in half a mile, peaking at 15% grade after being around 6-8% most of the way




You might think the extra quarter mile is a no-brainer to get a gentler average slope, but sometimes I feel like it's better to just go the steep way and get it over with.
