Small world. My 2004-2011 SoCal training camps were based out of my friend's house in the Shadowridge area. A couple turns and I'd be near the high school there, it was actually walking distance from his house (their two kids went to daycare in the little strip mall across from the HS for a bit), we'd go to the Albertsons? grocery store just up that big road.
I looked at Google, it's South Melrose. My sprint-practice/test/experiment hill was by Bueno Vista Park (the uphill portion heading north on S Melrose). Etc.
I attended that HS - Rancho Buena Vista HS. We also used to ditch class to smoke weed at that park - the "duck pound" we would call it. I used to hang out with bad kids, but got pretty good grades. There were a couple of us like that in our group.
Anyway, it's too bad that we never met to ride during your SoCal training camps. My parents live just a few miles from there. What time of the year were you in SoCal? I may have been away for college (graduated in 2010).
